If you are looking to Jailbreak your IOS device which is using the latest IOS 11.0-11.1.2, here is a tool to simplify your process.
Electra, it’s a jailbreaking toolkit launched by Coolpad. This is an open source project for the IOS community. Before going to the detail process, let’s go in small brief about jailbreak.
What is JailBreak?
Jailbreak in simple language is like freeing the limitations or restrictions on your IOS device which are imposed by Apple or carriers ( aT&T, Verizon etc). Apple devices which are known for providing more security than Android devices will impose some restrictions on unofficial app downloads, modifying few settings & more thus making it more secure & less vulnerable.
But few of them want to break through these restrictions & use IOS devices on full throttle, so they install a software application & break these restrictions & access the files.
Tethered, Semi-Tethered, Untethered & Semi-untethered Jailbreaking
Usually, Jailbreak is done in different ways, here are few.
Tethered Jailbreak usually did by connecting your iOS device to your PC/lap and then running the jailbreak app on it. A PC will be needed to turn on the iOS device each time it’s rebooted. So that’s the reason users hate tethered jailbreak.
Semi-Tethered is somewhat similar to tethered but it’s like using a normal device & jailbroken version on the same device. When you normally boot the device it loads the default kernel & will be functioned as a normal device. If you want to use jailbreak version then you need to use the patched kernel with the jailbreaking tool. Tethered jailbreak is one of the first to be developed & use but because of the issues they later used an untethered method.
If you are looking to use Free In-app purchases in IOS devices, then you can check this guide on IAP Cracker
Untethered jailbreak in simple terms is doing tethered jailbreak without a use of PC. The only problem with this jailbreak is it needs experience user to handle the operations.
Semi-untethered jailbreak the name itself reveals the functionality. This will act as Semi-tethered one where you don’t need a PC to use jailbreak. The patched kernel which is used for jailbreak is done by a software in the device. This type of jailbreak is announced by Pangu team in 2016.
Jailbreaking using Electra for iOS 11.0 – 11.1.2
Coolstar launched Electra, a jailbreak toolkit by which you can jailbreak iOS 11.0-11.1.2. Electra is not like a usual jailbreak tool where it installs Cydia & then does the jailbreak. They claim that jailbreaking using Electra is much safer than the one with substrate or Cydia. The best part of Electra is it contains a uninstall script by which you can return to non-jailbroken state for your device.
Note: As jailbreak itself is a risky process & also this Electra is still in beta stage though many of the users on reddit confirmed that Electra is working good, use at your own risk.
First, you need to download Cydia Impactor, you can download from their official site ( http://www.cydiaimpactor.com/ ), it’s available for Mac OS, Windows, Linux ( 32 bit & 64 bit ).
Then download the latest Beta from Coolstar official site ( https://coolstar.org/electra/ ). just click on the download link opposite to GitHub then the IPA file will be downloaded & place it on the desktop.
Connect your IOS device to your computer and exit from iTunes.
Then go to Applications –> Impactor –> right click it & open ( Don’t double-click it )
Drag the IPA file of Electra to the impactor screen, then enter your iTunes email & password. ( If you are worried then create new Apple ID & use it )
just wait for the extractor to do the work & Electra will be installed on your iOS device.
Go to settings –> General –> Profiles & device management –> Tap on your Apple ID you used for impactor & click Trust.
Open Electra, enable Tweak Toggle and click on Jailbreak.
Just wait for it to complete ( Your screen might go blank don’t do anything, just wait for it )
You can see Anemone installed. Anemone is just like Winterboard.
You can also do the same without using a computer for that.
Open iTweakOS –> Tap JB Tweaks –> Jailbreaks
Now download Electra from their official site ( https://coolstar.org/electra/), check out their recent beta & click download which is next to GitHub.
Electra is a great tool & works well. Though Cydia isn’t available for Electra right now but expects it to include the incoming beta update. If you face any error or stuck somewhere, comment here will try to solve your query /issue. Share this article on social networking sites.
