MWC 2017 – Top Moblie launches at Barcelona Event

Mobile World Congress  ( MWC )- held each year in Barcelona is an event that almost the whole world looks forward to. World’s top smartphone manufacturers make use of this platform to announce their new offerings at the event. Samsung, LG, Sony – you name them, and they have their own presence here at the MWC.

A new entrant – or rather re-entrant this time around is Nokia, with its Nokia 3310. The world is glued to notice what they have on offer. We present a glimpse of what we could lay our hands on in this post.

Well, Google makes use of the opportunity to showcase its wide platform. As always, this year too they are showing off their partners.

Google typically does not launch any new device at the MWC. However, this year there have been talks about the launch of Google Assistant as part of the core Google Apps. Google Assistant will now become part of the software update for Android Marshmallow and Nougat.

The Google Assistant will also be available for Google Home. It is also confirmed for Android Wear and Android TV as well.


Nokia has been leaving no stone unturned to make a memorable comeback. To begin with, it has relaunched the vintage device from the days gone by – the Nokia 3310 – with a contemporary styling.

Along with the 3310, Nokia is launching three Android-powered devices – the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6. Nokia 6 will be a premium device, or a flagship to be precise. All the Nokia phones are likely to hit the market in the second quarter of the year.

The Nokia 3310 will be the perfect feature phone for those who would love to have a secondary device for their needs. The classic Snake game developed by Gameloft is yet another attraction and also with a crisp 2 MP camera and 22 hours standby battery life. Nokia 6 has already been launched in China and will make a global appearance with a few tweaks.

The 5.5-inch device powered by Snapdragon 430 will come with 32 GB storage and 3 GB RAM. Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 will be the mid-range devices with 16 GB internal storage and 2 GB of RAM. Nokia has made announcements about the future of Nokia brand. It is releasing new health and fitness products under the brand name Withings.


LG is one name that has utilized the MWC 2017 to its fullest potential. They have showcased their upcoming flagship, the LG G6 at the event. LG G6 will be the first smartphone to come with Dolby Vision HDR functionality.

The technology is supposed to be the best for video playback with its support for better contrast wider colors. Powered by Snapdragon 821, the phone will have a 5.7-inch screen and come with a 4 GB RAM. The G6 will have a 13 mp rear camera. The camera on the phone will feature a dual lens setup.

The IPS 68 certification and an enhanced battery capacity are a few points that may make it hot selling smartphone of the year. The Unique selling point of the new LG G6 will be the big screen that fits easily into your pocket – innovative design at its best!


Huawei never uses the MWC event for launching its flagships. It prefers its own event for the purpose.

However, MWC 2017 may be different. The company is launching the P10 and P10 Plus this year. The phones will have 5.1 and 5.5-inch screens respectively. Powered by the in-house Kirin 960 Octa-core processor, they are bound to pack much of the power. Both the flagships will feature the Dual-lens camera as part of Huawei’s technology.

Then there are Huawei watches coming up at MWC 2017. The Huawei Watch 2.0 will run on Android Wear 2.0 and will be available in Classic and Sports variants.


Samsung is not launching the Galaxy S8 at the MWC 2017. Instead, it is bringing up Samsung Galaxy Tab S3. It will be a premium tablet running Android and support for S-Pen stylus.

Samsung is also looking forward to tackling Microsoft. It is launching 2 in 1 tablets in the form of Galaxy Books. They are available in 10.6 and 12-inch sizes and will run on Windows 10 platform. The 2 in 1’s will have detachable keyboards and will be powered by Intel processors. There is also support for S-Pen.

Samsung also launched a new VR Headset. The new Gear VR will have the dedicated controller for Touchpad.


Sony is known for launching new handsets at the MWC. At the MWC 2017 to it has come up with four new devices.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium is the premium of the lot. Powered by Snapdragon 835 processor, the phone has a 5.5-inch display that offers 4K HDR capacity. With the mighty 64 GB internal storage and a 4 GB RAM, the Xperia ZX is equipped with Motion Eye camera.

The Sony Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra have been launched in the mid-range market. The phones carry a screen size of 5 and 6 inches respectively. The former will come with an HD resolution, while the latter offers a full HD resolution. Both the devices will carry a 23 MP camera for the impressive photography experience.

The major attraction at the Mobile World Congress would be the Nokia’s comeback and the new launches from LG. As we are aware of the fact, Samsung does not announce their flagships at the MWC.

The Final Thoughts

The world’s largest Mobile Tradeshow is underway and has seen the launches and announcements in the software industry. With Nokia relaunching its vintage 3310 handsets with slight modifications to suit the current trend, it has set a new precedent.

Then there are the usual big launches as well. However, we may need to wait till the announcement made the turn into the actual reality. Until then, let us keep speculating.
